Ergoflex vs Koala – Detailed Comparison:

About Brands:

Ergoflex vs Koala Mattress Comparison.

Launched in 2006, Ergoflex is a leading UK-based mattress-in-a-box company that aims to take over the big guns like Tempur with a range of premium quality products at a fraction of price. They expanded branches into Australia in 2019 and have continued to be one of the Aussie-favourite brands since then.

Koala is an Aussie brand and was launched in 2015. The founders were motivated to help people get the best sleep and take care of the environment. Their goal is to eliminate the predatory practices used in the mattress industry against the environment and the customers.

Ergoflex vs Koala – Construction:

Koala Mattress:

The Koala Mattress is made of two layers of covers and two layers of foams; let’s see what they are:

  • The top layer is made of a Kloudcell foam that leverages the open cell technology, which increases the flow of air, keeping you cool throughout the night.
  • The second layer is an ultra-resilient Ecofoam layer that offers support and balances the softness of the first layer with its firmer surface.
  • Both layers are encased in an inner cover that’s made from 100% polyester.
  • Lastly, a breathable cover comprised of 30% Tencel and 70% polyester covers the whole bed. It can be removed and washed.

Ergoflex Mattress:

The Ergoflex mattress users a combination of three different foam layers that are encased in two covers, just like the Koala.

  • The first layer is a visco-elastic memory foam that’s breathable than typical memory foam, ensuring it doesn’t trap as much heat as the others.
  • Next is a Cool-Sleep airflow layer with a corrugated design that further promotes airflow.
  • The third layer is a high-resilience foam that offers excellent support and ensures the sleeper doesn’t completely sink in the top memory foam layer.
  • All three foams are encased in an inner cover, then covered by a machine-washable and removable Tencel cover with excellent breathability.

Ergoflex vs Koala – Firmness & Comfort:

Both the Koala and Ergoflex mattresses offer similar firmness levels – 6.5 and 6 out of 10, respectively, on the mattress firmness scale. This means both mattresses should fit most sleeping styles, including back, side, front or a combo of these.

The difference between the comfort levels of these mattresses comes with the type of materials used in their construction. The Ergoflex leverages visco-elastic memory foam with a high-resilience foam base that offers a motionless, secure and incredibly supported sleep experience.

On the other hand, Koala has a balanced sleeping surface – not too firm and not too soft. This is perfect for people with circulation issues, back pain, joint pain or fibromyalgia. Moreover, Koala uses Kloudcell foam that adds reactivity and bounce to the mattress.

You will still get support while sleeping but it’s not exclusively aimed to offer pressure-relieving orthopaedic support that Ergoflex has to offer.

Ergoflex vs Koala – Miscellaneous Features:

Edge Support:

Ergoflex vs Koala Mattress Comparison.

This is the area where both of these mattresses perform averagely. Since they’re all-foam mattresses, you cannot get the same level of edge support that a mattress with an innerspring base reinforces around the parameter.

Nevertheless, you will also not get the weak edge support that many all-foam mattresses have – it’s just that people with trouble getting out of bed or have a tendency to fall off the bed during sleep may struggle here.

Motion Isolation:

Things get better when it comes to motion isolation, with the Ergoflex mattress having the upper hand. Although the Koala mattress has above-average motion isolation capabilities due to its firm bottom layer of Ecofoam, the Ergoflex mattress goes an extra mile.

Ergoflex leverages a blend of high-density foam base and visco-elastic memory foam on top that both work together to localize the motion generation from movements.

Breathability:

Both of the mattresses leverage Tencel outer covers that offer excellent breathability, and an open-cell foam layer in each of them further increases the flow of air.

However, Ergoflex takes things up a notch by using a Cool-Sleep foam layer with a corrugated design, allowing the air to pass through and take the heat trapped deeper into the layers.

Ergoflex vs Koala – Warranties & Logistics:

The Ergoflex mattress offers next-day delivery for metro areas but charges $19.99; the cost and delivery duration further increase for areas outside of the metropolitan region. On the other hand, Koala offers Australia-wide free delivery and typically under 4 hours for metro regions.

Both mattresses have the same 10-year warranty that covers 2.5cm or higher levels of sagging. However, they differ in trials. The Ergoflex mattress falls short with its 30-night trial, while Koala offers a generous 120-night trial.

You can also only return the mattress after using it for 21 nights with the Ergoflex, while Koala allows you to return anytime you want during the 120-night window. Returns are free for both mattresses.

Note: One important thing to remember here is that Ergoflex was launched in 2006, so it’s the only mattress-in-a-box company that has been operating long enough to test its 10-year warranty period. And the incredible reviews left by users suggest it hasn’t failed.

Final Verdict:

However, if you want a balance of bounce and support, then Koala is best but keep in mind, it won’t be as good as Ergoflex for people with pain issues. Also, those conscious about our environment will be better off using a Koala mattress.
